Feedback from DSL at Holy Trinity Pewley Down School

Side By Side CSA is a survivor-designed programme delivered with Survivor, Sophie Olson, and former Headteacher, Cindy O'Sullivan. We understand the unique challenges of the school environment and are committed to driving real, impactful change. Our approach goes beyond workshops - it's about partnering with your team to deeply explore safeguarding complexities and encourage a genuine, human-centred approach.

An initial meeting with senior leadership will help us to ascertain your specific school needs, and you to fully understand the training.

"Society's Shame, Not Mine"

We are proud to have worked with:

We are profoundly grateful to every survivor of child sexual abuse who has consulted, shared and advised, and every professional who has participated in our training, collaborated with us, or supported our organisation in normalising conversations about child sexual abuse. Your support means the world to us. Together, we are dismantling the stigma empowering survivors to embrace the belief that child sexual abuse is:

"Nothing may have changed if my teacher had logged his concerns, but by doing nothing, he ensured that nothing changed. My abuse continued..."

Well-being support and clear signposting for delegates is provided throughout sessions, with the recognition the subject might be challenging for those supporting victims and survivors, or managing their own trauma. Our approach is human-centered, kind and trauma responsive.  Side By Side CSA is committed to evidence-based practices that align with current legislation. We are proud to amplify the often-overlooked voices of survivors from diverse backgrounds, while providing the latest resources from CSA Centre of Expertise, NSPCC, and The Independent Inquiry Into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA).

It is our belief that all staff who come into contact with children in education should have training on what factors to look out for and how to manage disclosures of Child Sexual Abuse. We provide context to the statistics, via lived experience, which is invaluable in raising critical awareness of the behaviours and mindset displayed by a sexually abused child.

Staff might feel anxious or misinformed about the way a child might present, or how to approach a conversation where concerns are raised. This training supports existing safeguarding, brings policies to life, and instils confidence in staff, allowing them to use their professional skills and judgement effectively in a complex and challenging area. We encourage schools to consider the wider school community, as the ripple effect of child sexual abuse can impact on staff and parents, with consequences for the children they support.

Now and again you come across people and organisations that give you a real beacon of hope and remind you that there are good people in the world who are changing the narrative in a quiet yet immensely powerful and inspirational way.

Thank you for your time, guidance, and support. Your message and approach to supporting organisations to be able to recognise and talk about CSA is incredible.

Many staff commented that they had held conversations at home last night with friends and families and had felt empowered to talk openly. Your plan is working, and your message is being heard far and wide.
